Is Nu Phi Psi a member of the NPHC (National Pan Hellenic Council)?
No. At this point we have chosen to remain an independent national fraternity (meaning we do not belong to any national council or conference of fraternal organizations). It has been in the best interest of our active membership since 1988 to remain independent, however, we have not ruled out the possibility of joining a national council in the future.
Will being a member of an independent fraternity make me different from any other Greek?
Not at all. Being a member of any established positive fraternal organization with a proven track record of carrying out its mission is an honor. Whether the tradition is 100 years old or less than a year old, is inconsequential. A man should join a fraternity based on shared vision and interest, not on history alone. After attaining membership, history alone will not influence you to be productive or maintain active status; however, shared vision and interest with your fraternity and your chapter—will.
Does Nu Phi Psi step?
Oh yes. Nu Phi Psi Fraternity, Incorporated was founded in 1988, a time where stepping and party strolling/hopping were all very prominent (specifically in BGLO culture). Many of our chapters pride themselves on stepping; however, stepping is something that many of our members do to represent, it does not represent us collectively.
What service projects does Nu Phi Psi participate in?
Many—and all are infused in bettering the community. Each academic year, each and every one of our chapters are all required to formulate and carry out several projects both on affiliated campuses as well as the surrounding community in which the school is located.
Are their any advantages being a member of Nu Phi Psi?
Yes, but there are advantages to joining any fraternity. Choosing to be an active member of a Greek Letter Organization entitles you to many discounts, network opportunities, and advantages that non-members may not have access to. However, Nu Phi Psi is a fraternity not Sam’s Club, Costco, or AAA; we are a bond of brotherhood—men bound by a common commitment to scholarship and service. Remember, you should not shift and shop through organizational perks like the Sunday newspaper. Again, you should choose a fraternity based on complimentary interests.
